Personal qualification for Functional Safety (Automotive)

Become an Automotive Functional Safety Professional (AFSP) or Expert (AFSE) with the personal qualification program from SGS-TÜV Saar.

Why this program?

Automotive Functional Safety is of crucial importance in the automotive sector. As a certified Automotive Functional Safety Professional (AFSP), you can demonstrate your knowledge in accordance with international standards such as ISO 26262. This underlines your commitment to the safety and reliability of vehicle systems.

AFSE status as an Automotive Functional Safety Expert:

• AFSE is reserved for experts with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
• To achieve AFSE status, you must document your experience, pass a qualification audit and apply to the SGS-TÜV Saar Examination Board.

Steps required for
the AFSE expert status

• For the expert status "Automotive Functional Safety Expert (AFSE)" you must prove that you have been working in this field for at least 5 years.
• To obtain this expert status, you must apply to the SGS-TÜV Saar Examination Board, document your experience in functional safety and successfully pass a qualification audit.
• Confirmation of knowledge of all parts of ISO 26262 as part of a 3-hour personal expert audit (live or online).
• The AFSE certification is valid for 5 years.

After 5 years, the AFSP qualification can be extended for a further 5 years. The necessary steps are described below and the application form is available for download.

• You apply for the extension using the application form and send us proof of your activities in the field of functional safety in connection with the application of ISO 26262. This includes projects, as well as further training measures, attendance at conferences and the writing of specialist articles. It should be clear from this letter that you have been active in the field of functional safety in the last 5 years and have undergone continuous further training.
• You can take part in the AFSP update examination at the earliest six months before the AFSP certificate expires or six months after the AFSP certificate expires.
• Once your application, which is also your order for us, has been checked, you will receive an access code to take part in an online multiple choice test. You have 30 minutes to complete the test and can repeat it once within 24 hours if you fail the first time.
• After successfully passing the test, you will receive a new AFSP certificate from us by post, which is valid for another 5 years.
  The certificate is extended for five years from the original validity date.
